DJ Mzenga Man Calls On ZAM & NAC In Blacklisting Websites Leaking Songs On Sell

M-Beats Generation Music Producer, DJ Mzenga calls upon Zambia Association of Musicians & National Arts Council of Zambia In Blacklisting Websites That Are Leaking Songs On Sell

Dear Zambia Association of Musicians – ZAM and National Arts Council of Zambia, this is the right time to start doing the things that will mean so much for your artists.

A lot of Musicians as we speak have started to sell their music through Mvesesani, and well-meaning Zambians and music followers are supporting this movement because its the only way our industry will grow with value!

How ever, some few excited and notorious mini blogs or websites have a tendency of leaking some free Downloads to a song that is on sale for the sake of traffic and popularity!

How ever, some few excited and notorious mini blogs or websites have a tendency of leaking some free Downloads to a song that is on sale for the sake of traffic and popularity!

This is where now I am bringing you to light (ZAM) Kindly on behalf of the affected artists take note of such platforms and have them reported to ZICTA so that their sites can be blacklisted.

To the MUSICIANS, make sure all your music is licensed/ copyrighted such that if such a thing happens, Do Not hesitate to squeeze them the legal way at the courts of LAW. (Personally, I have issued several warnings and I set aside a special legal team to handle anyone infringing on my content)

Guys, we are at a verge of extinction because we have for so many years embraced the culture of free Downloads and truthfully speaking, this totally limits growth and we shall continue wallowing in poverty since we spend so much time, effort and money creating the music for free consumption!

Let the songs that are released for free remain free and let those that are released for sale remain on sale!

Thank you to all professional and well-meaning bloggers, websites, promoters, influencers and fans who are supporting this movement genuinely by only sharing the “For Sale” links on their platform.

  • Macky 2 says he is not rich

Macky 2 says he is not rich

Most Zambian artists live a lavish life, at least that’s what they show us on social media. One of which includes one of the greatest Macky 2. However, Macky 2 says he is not rich, not yet anyway.

Macky2 took to social media to write a long post about how artists show a lavish lifestyle that they can’t even afford. Something he believes is because the more extraordinary something seems the more it will attract attention. Because most people believe normal is boring.

“I look at pictures like these and think to myself “Damn, I look rich” the truth is I’m not. Don’t get me wrong, I really appreciate every little thing I have and I don’t take it for granted. But the name I have made does not tally with the money, at least not yet,” He wrote.

“In the entertainment industry there is a common saying ati, “fake it till you make it.” artists show you a luxurious life that we can’t even afford. Mainly because we understand that the more extraordinary something seems, the more it will attract attention. Most people believe normal is boring,” He continued.

However, Macky 2 advised his fans not to be misled by what they see on social media because most artists are broke unlike what they show on social media.

Actor and producer Onechi Lwenge shares his covid story

More and more Zambian celebrities are coming forward with their stories about contracting covid in the hopes of spreading awareness and Onechi Lwenge is no different.

The ministry of health posted the Actor’s letter to his fans on Facebook in the hopes that it will encourage Zambians to take the necessary precautions to prevent the spread of the deadly virus.

    https://www.facebook.com/129917990516200/posts/1824419254399390/?d=n

Actor Onechi Lwenge wrote as follows…

    To Hell and Back

    My Journey Surviving Covid-19

If someone had told me at the beginning of December that I would spend New Year’s Eve on oxygen at the UTH Covid-19 ICU Isolation ward, I would not have believed them.

Like a lot of Zambians at the beginning of December, I was… complacent. We had survived a previous wave of Covid in the first half of 2020. Though devastating, we met it at high alert. Learning to wear a mask and sanitize vigorously was the norm. But time passed. By the end of the year, I was attending to my regular calendar of social events that come up at this time.

What started as a simple cough was ignored as I went about my business. But as the days progressed, the cough persisted. One evening my colleagues and I went for a nightcap after a successful function to a popular night club. I remember looking out at the hundreds upon hundreds of people present after we entered and thinking to myself “Not one single person here is wearing a mask,” and we carried on enjoying the festive season.

Concern began to take hold when the cough was not going away. Instead, there was now a dreadful fever, aches and pain in the body, a strange feeling like a coat on my tongue which interfered with enjoying food. A lack of appetite gripped my body and without being able to eat I began to wither. It was at this point that I decided to test to rule out. Breathing was beginning to be a challenge as well but I kept it to myself not to alarm anyone.

A day after the test, I received the life-shaking call that I was positive. By this point, my difficulty breathing was so apparent that the doctor recommended that I come to the UTH immediately. Gripped in fear and panic, my family shed tears as we packed my bag to the hospital. I looked at the people God had instructed me to look after and felt defeat as I was going to be hospitalized. Who was going to look after them? Would I return?

By the time I arrived at the hospital, my difficulty breathing had reached its peak. I could barely stand. I was screened, x-rayed and admitted to the ICU Isolation ward with severe pneumonia. Had I not been admitted that night, I would not be here to tell this story I am certain. As the new year rang outside with fireworks and fanfare, my deteriorating condition made the future uncertain.

The 7 nights I spent in the ward were among, if not, the scariest times I have ever experienced. The accommodations, however, were decent. The team of doctors were very hardworking though quite stressed and overworked. Our rooms were designed for single occupancy but they had to readjust this to provide for double occupancy so as to meet the demand.

There comes a point where you are in so much discomfort and pain that the thought of death begins to flirt with you. Before long, it consumes you. I had to face the reality that I may never see those I care about the most ever again. Nights faded into days. Jab after jab, doctors and nurses coming and going at all hours of the day and night. My thoughts drifted to my mother, my son and the love of my life. I needed hope.

Being in isolation means no one can visit you. The only company you have is the person you share your room with and the doctors and nurses, who are covered head to toe in white overalls. You learn to identify them only from their eyes. Sometimes you don’t know who is talking to you. It’s then that you crave being in contact with those you care about.

I befriended some people inside. When we mustered the strength to speak to one another, it temporarily concealed the pain and trauma of isolation. But even those moments were interrupted regularly by a call or a message that another friend, acquaintance or loved one has died from Covid. That’s when I understood that it is by God’s grace alone that I am still walking this Earth. This pain of daily loss continues up to now.

In those dark moments of being in the ward (with a speculated 20% survival rate), prayers from loved ones around the world brought comfort. I began to respond favourably to the treatment received. Before long I was taken off the oxygen and began to breathe on my own before I was discharged.

I am very appreciative of the doctors and nurses at UTH that treated me. Their expert care is the reason I am still here and honestly your best chance at survival of this disease. Ultimate gratitude goes to God. I have to believe that God gave me a second chance at life for a reason. Which brings me to society at large.

You miss the strangest things when you are in isolation. For me, it was sunlight touching my skin. In the car ride back home, I dropped the window and put my arm out to feel the golden rays of the sun on my flesh. But as I adjusted my sight, I noticed that the majority of people were not masking up. Not distancing. Having gone through what I had just done, I was horrified.

My message is simple. We can only fight COVID-19 together. Which is why we must unquestionably adhere to the Five Golden Rules to end covid-19 infection:

    1. Mask up
    2. Social distance
    3. Frequently hand wash or sanitize
    4. Stay home and avoid crowds
    5. Seek medical attention early

To those that still think Covid-19 is not real or another internet hoax, I say this; I was lucky to survive, will you?

  • Ephraim bags Sony Music Africa deal

Ephraim bags Sony Music Africa deal

Zambia’s biggest veteran gospel singing powerhouse Ephraim just announced that he received a Sony Music Africa deal.

He posted the following on his Facebook page:-

“Growing up admiring artists who were signed under international labels and wondered how I was going to one day get there. I kept on working and improving my Art by Gods grace.

This year is indeed a year of supernatural breakthrough, Imagine receiving a call from SONY Music Africa…

    Nations are calling indeed.

    https://www.facebook.com/636930446390819/posts/3704337952983371/?app=fbl

The comments were very supportive and centred around how amazing it was that his music could win even more souls for Christ on an international scale.

One of the singer’s fans said  “Big congratulations to You, I don’t know what to say but glory to God. I have a collection of gospel songs and your songs are among the songs that draw me closer to God.

May the name of the Lord be glorified in all that you do.

    Amen.”

Another said “Congratulations Sir, Your songs really minister to a lot of souls. May God continue using you.”

Though there was a massive swarm of congratulations, there was also some stern advice given reminding him not to be swayed by worldly things to make him forget his faith and where he has come from.

One fan said,  “Congratulation sir just be conscience of these international music company when they bring ungodly conditions in your music but enticing you with big deals. remember who made you the artist they are now looking for. I should have inboxed you this advice but for the sake of many other upcoming who will soon or later be called for big deals, I took this opportunity to post it here. I know you are a great man of God and a man with a sound judgement. greater doors are opening sir”

Another fan offered practical legal and music industry advice stating “Just review anything they offer carefully, with a lawyer if you can. Some artists are bound to contracts they wish they could get out of. Gospel artists are told not to mention the name of Jesus on their records and secular artists sometimes don’t start making any money until towards the end of their careers as the labels charge hefty levies for promotion. Otherwise, this is good to hear.”

That being said we wish Ephraim all the best in his new endeavours with Sony Music Africa and can’t wait to see what the future holds for him.

  • Towela Kaira Debunks fake news about her death

Towela Kaira Debunks fake news about her death

Being a celebrity in Zambia has its own advantages but so does it have disadvantages. Yesterday singer Towela Kaira had to debunk fake rumours on Facebook about her death.

A Facebook user by the name of “Bupe Feruk Mwansa” posted a photo of Towela Kaira and wrote “Mwebantu awe twalapwa nomba!!! R.I.P Towela Kaira.

However, Towela quickly got wind of this fake report and took to her own page to assure everyone that she was in good health.

“Currently getting groceries and in good health. Sometimes before you spread rumours of someone’s death, don’t say anything if you have zero or inadequate information.” wrote Towela Kaira.

Towela Kaira who is the younger sister to Macky 2 and Chef 187 has also said she will be getting in touch with Bupe Feruk Mwansa. Obviously, this is to sue for spreading false news.

In other news, the youngest of the Kaira siblings shared an interesting post from her brother Chef 187 today.

“I’d rather be overrated nolo overhyped, I can live with that. Being slept on was too rough.” Chef tweeted.

Towela was clearly feeling the same way because not only did she reply to the tweet but she also shared the post to her own account.

Chef 187 and Towela Kaira are no strangers to being slept on. If you remember well, a few years back only Macky 2 was recognised in the music industry. It took time for Chef 187 to finally earn his own respect as an artist. And the same goes for Towela Kaira. She only recently began to be recognised as an artist other than Macky 2 and Chef 187’s little sister.

  • Shyman Shaizo says King Illest is not the best rapper from Southern Province

Shyman Shaizo says King Illest is not the best rapper from Southern Province

So what makes a rapper great? Is it the quality of their lyrics, the dopeness of their beats or their ability to brand themselves as an influencer?

Those were the sentiments being expressed after Shayman Shaizo’s Facebook post highlighting the discourse on whether or not King Illest is the best rapper from Southern Province.

    https://www.instagram.com/p/CJR9K3oFiHt/?igshid=1hgxptfna6p77

    Shayman’s post stated as follows:

    https://www.facebook.com/100000127069957/posts/4262602713753922/?d=n

As soon as he made the post his followers began to give their hot takes on the subject.

A fan of King Illest responded to the post saying “He is the greatest rapper southern province has ever produced period”

While some blatantly came out saying “He’s not and never will be.”

One commenter decided to add a little more context to their reasoning by saying “But who are those best rappers that we have never heard? Because someone doing well must be known to the public. Musically, for one to be the best should at least be known or heard so that people can judge. Maybe there is something we are missing back home?”

Shayman replied to the above comment and said “they have great music but haven’t sold themselves out there…Colgate is not the only toothpaste”

To which another commenter added “my king illest is the best time in the southern province unless one hates him. The guy is not just best in southern but well-recognized countrywide and now penetrating internationally. Who else in southern province hip hop musician can have his music played in other provinces apart from him? I stay in Kasama only him, I’m in Cooper belt only him, Lusaka it’s him. Let these guys just work hard than hating someone who is far beyond their level. Look at people like Emmanuel Mpande Music it’s everywhere my brother the guy is doing well and he has studied music on how it can be accepted countrywide.”

Another, disregarding the topic of talent said: “It is all about branding.”

In the same vein of branding, someone else said “He is not even among the top 5 southern rappers but he is among the top 2 brands in Southern if not the best”

Another commenter came out and said he had never even heard a single song by King Illest stating “To be honest I have never heard of any of his songs. I just see pictures of him. Could it be a case of an artist being more popular than his songs? Anyway let me mind my business”

Finally, another person said “The problem is that the provincial rappers are hating the national rapper instead of working together” alluding to the fact that this conversation goes to show the disunity within the Zambian hip hop scene.

To round up this debate, the general consensus appeared to be that most felt that Southern Province appears to have a lot of hidden gems capable of taking the top spot but none with the branding capabilities of King Illest.

Let us know what you think about this topic.
