Zambian music star Yo Maps has just hit a huge milestone in his career after winning his first-ever award at the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA). This win is not only a big moment for him as an artist, but also a proud step forward for Zambian music on the African stage.
Yo Maps walked away with the Best Southern Africa Male award, thanks to his hit song “Mr & Mrs.” The category was packed with some of Africa’s biggest stars, including Tyler ICU, Nasty C, Jah Prayzah, Master KG, and Kabza De Small. Beating such heavyweights shows just how far Yo Maps has come and how consistent he’s been in dropping hit after hit.
The excitement didn’t end at the awards show. When Yo Maps returned to Lusaka, he was welcomed like a hero. Fans, fellow artists, and members of the Zambia Association of Musicians all came out to celebrate him. Leading the reception was the association’s president, B’Flow, who joined many others in honouring Yo Maps for this incredible achievement.
This year’s AFRIMA Awards highlighted just how rich and diverse African music really is, with many big names getting nominated. Artists like Fally Ipupa, Ferre Gola, Rema, Juma Jux, and Ayra Starr all received nods. Ayra Starr even bagged two nominations, including the highly respected Artiste of the Year category.
Yo Maps’ AFRIMA win is more than just a personal achievement; it’s a victory for Zambia as a whole. His success shows how much Zambian music is growing and gaining attention across the continent. It also motivates upcoming artists to keep pushing. As he continues to reach new heights, Yo Maps is clearly securing his place among Africa’s top musicians.
