Sampa The Great Honors Zambia’s Zamrock Legacy on New Album Nu Zamrock
Sampa The Great’s new album, Nu Zamrock, celebrates Zambia’s rich musical heritage and the influential Zamrock movement while reconnecting the artist with her Zambian roots.
The project took on personal meaning after Sampa discovered that her uncle, George Kunda—also known as Groovy Joe—co-founded the pioneering Zamrock band WITCH. The family connection inspired her to explore Zamrock as part of her own cultural legacy.
The 16-track album includes previously released singles “Can’t Hold Us” featuring Mwanjé, “Simon Says” and “Location”. It also features collaborations with Sia on “Supernova”, KAMAUU on “Star” and Nicole Gumbe on “Gone”.
Nu Zamrock by Sampa The Great is out now on digital music platforms.
