Zambian hip-hop star and aspiring Member of Parliament for Nchanga, Macky 2, says he was arrested after meeting with a group of former miners who have allegedly gone unpaid for years. The ex-miners, who once worked to power Zambia’s economy, claim they have not received their full pensions since 2020.
According to Macky 2, he was not at the gathering to campaign or make empty political promises, but to hear the miners’ stories and show solidarity. He explained that his goal was to listen to their frustrations, acknowledge their struggles, and assure them that their voices matter. While he admitted he may not personally have the power to solve their pension issues on his own, he emphasised that he will continue to use his platform to highlight what he describes as a serious injustice.
Macky 2 has now called on the government to urgently address the concerns of the ex-miners. He stressed that these individuals are not just numbers on paper, but fathers, neighbours, and community members who dedicated their working lives to building the nation. In his view, they deserve dignity, justice, and the benefits they rightfully earned.
After his release, Macky 2 thanked everyone who showed concern and support, saying true leadership is about serving people, not backing down in the face of pressure. He added that this journey is bigger than any one person and is ultimately about restoring dignity to those who feel forgotten.
